Assistant Professor Fuhar Dixit will be a featured speaker for a Science Diplomacy Grid webinar discussing how science diplomacy can help address some of the most consequential challenges facing the planet.
The one-hour session, Grid Talks: Hidden Systems, Global Solutions | Emerging Contaminants and Ocean Governance, will take place June 22 at 1 p.m. ET. Registration is open to anyone.
Dixit will be discussing a story he wrote for Science Diplomacy titled, The Lindau Spirit: From Diplomacy to Discovery in the Fight Against Emerging Contaminants. The story describes Dixit’s participation in the 2025 Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, where he met individuals who would help form his research group at the University of Tennessee.
“We are making an incubator of good minds to come together and work here at UT,” Dixit said. “We are driving innovation by getting some of the best people to come and perform interdisciplinary work. Experts from multiple backgrounds are coming together to do science and make discoveries.”
Held annually since 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have enabled scientific and personal exchange among generations, disciplines, and cultures. The meetings bring 30-40 Nobel Laureates together to interact with the next generation of leading scientists, including undergraduates, master and PhD students, and postdocs from across the world.
Dixit’s participation in the 2025 meeting left a lasting impression, and helped lay the foundation for what he is building with his group at UT.
“It’s important for people to know that they have resources where you can meet Nobel Laureates,” he said. “When you are with 30 Nobel Laureates for a week and you just listen to their stories, it inspires you to realize that it’s achievable. If you keep doing good science, you can also reach heights like winning Nobel prizes.”
