Department Holds Inaugural Scholarship Reception

The department hosted its inaugural CEE Student Scholarship Reception earlier this month, awarding $200,000 to 98 undergraduates. Faculty, staff, and members of the department’s board of advisors were in attendance to celebrate the students.

In previous years, scholarship recipients were announced at the department’s awards banquet, but Distinguished Lecturer Jenny Retherford said this separate event provided the opportunity to truly celebrate the students as important members of the CEE community.

“We wanted them to know how appreciated they are as members of our program,” she added. “It was a privilege to read the names of the scholarship winners. I enjoy spending time with the students in the classroom and I see their small achievements, but this event allowed me to see their achievements beyond the classes we share.”
