Associate Professor Jon Hathaway is one of three UT professors helping a group of homeowners in North Knoxville install rain gardens in their flood-prone neighborhood.
Hathaway; Lisa Reyes Mason, associate professor and PhD program director in the College of Social Work; Andrea Ludwig, associate professor of ecological engineering; and members of the student group Hydrolunteers currently are building a demonstration garden at the North Knoxville Branch of the Knox County Public Library in the Edgewood Park neighborhood. Thanks to a $7,000 grant from the Alliance of Women Philanthropists and a $1,000 grant from UT’s Office of Community Engagement and Outreach, the group can build similar rain gardens for 10 homeowners in Edgewood Park.
