Former UT Center for Transportation Research Director David Clarke has spoken about the Ohio train derailment with several media outlets. In the wake of the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, media sought out experts in rail transportation for their knowledge on a wide variety of issues.

One of the people most frequently cited has been former Director of the Center for Transportation Research David Clarke.

Clarke, who was also a research associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was quoted by PBS News about the costs associated with safety improvements.

He also spoke to the Associated Press about the initial report on the incident from the National Transportation Safety Board, was quoted in the Roanoke Times about general rail safety, and the Chicago Tribune about safety surrounding freight trains (subscription required).
