Whitney Lisenbee Honored with PEO Scholar Award

CEE doctoral candidate in Water Resources Engineering Whitney Lisenbee is one of 100 doctoral students in the US and Canada selected to receive a $15,000 Scholar Award from the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was sponsored by Chapter AH of Knoxville, Tennessee.

“I am honored to be named a P.E.O. Scholar because I appreciate the support P.E.O. provides to women to accomplish their goals,” said Lisenbee. “I hope to also provide this encouragement to young women throughout my career.”

CEE assistant professor Jon Hathaway who advises Lisenbee said, “I received the advice from my PhD advisor years ago that bringing in the best grad students makes things much easier on a professor. Whitney is a great example of this. Hardworking, smart, and personable, she is a joy to advise. The award is well deserved and I hope paves the path for more women in engineering.”

The P.E.O. Scholar Awards (PSA) were established in 1991 to provide substantial merit-based awards for women of the United States and Canada who are pursuing a doctoral-level degree at an accredited college or university. Scholar Awards recipients are a select group of women chosen for their high level of academic achievement and their potential for having a positive impact on society.
