The Tennessean recognized the advocates, survivors, lawmakers, and law enforcement officials who are working to make the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge safer as its People of the Year of 2019.
The newspaper identified the group as the Natchez Trace Bridge Heroes and listed Jenny Retherford, CEE senior lecturer, as one of the heroes. Retherford led six students in a Senior Design project aimed at designing structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing barriers for the bridge.
The students—Nancy Abdo, Joseph Allston, Connor Campbell, Meet Patel, Payne Susong, and Jay Thota—worked on the project for two semesters and proposed three different designs.
