Assistant Professor Candace Brakewood recently was interviewed about the impact of COVID-19 on mass transit for a Bloomberg Businessweek article titled, “Mass Transit Faces a Downward Spiral of Reduced Revenue and Ridership.”
In the article, Brakewood predicts one of the long-term effects of the pandemic will likely be loss of riders. When people return to work, some may determine it’s less risky to choose another form of transportation.
“Those who will return are the dependent riders, without a car and without the means to purchase a car,” she said.
